ZTE 5G, in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia (TM), successfully trialed a pioneering 28Gbps mmWave network in Malaysia, achieving unprecedented high speeds with the latest technology.

What is mmWave Technology?

mmWave, short for millimeter waves, has been a focus of ZTE for many years and is the fastest type of wireless 5G technology, which represents the future of the industry. It provides increased speeds over current formats due to its smaller size; its wavelengths are generally less than 10 millimeters.

Other than the increased speeds, perhaps the biggest benefit to consumers is that a smaller wavelength allows for more signals in a given area, as there will be more “room” for multiple signals to co-exist near one another in the same space. This means that crowded areas like airports, stadiums, and concerts will no longer have the poor wireless reception that has plagued these locations for years.

ZTE 5G Breakthrough: Achieving the Fastest 28Gbps mmWave Trial

The trial was conducted by combining ZTE’s microchip processors and mmWave technology with the existing infrastructure and technical prowess of TM. The two companies simply replaced the standard signal sent out through MT’s network with one they had co-developed based on mmWave technology. The result was a massive success.

28 gigabits per second (Gbps) is a significant number in the telecommunications industry, as it is considerably higher than the theoretical maximum of 10 Gbps offered by current 5G networks. Accordingly, this higher rate of speed represents, at the very least, 5.5G, which had not been seen anywhere in the world with current technology before the successful test.

Before the trial was conducted, 6G was not expected by experts to come until 2030 at the earliest. However, ZTE’s test may have moved up that timeline and the next generation of wireless could arrive sooner than was previously expected. It is also believed that ZTE’s role as an industry leader makes it highly possible if not probable that they will be heavily involved in developing the 6G standard when it eventually arrives.

ZTE 5G and TM Collaboration

ZTE Malaysia and TM entered a strategic partnership in March 2023, with the stated goals of creating a hybrid cloud and 5G core network, as well as developing new technologies and innovating existing ones. This test is the culmination of the first step in that partnership.

This particular trial could not have come about without the partnership between TM and ZTE, as the trial involved the perfect combination of TM’s existing infrastructure and technical knowledge and ZTE’s groundbreaking mmWave technology and microchip processors. These elements combined to be more than the sum of their parts and led to the 5G trial’s resounding success.

ZTE 5G Advancements Malaysia

As a result of this success, Malaysians will be able to enjoy browsing the internet at greatly increased speeds and lower latency for a wide variety of purposes, including streaming videos (both live and prerecorded) with no buffering and online video games without lag, as well as allowing for immersive virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) programs that can use current real-life data like locations to provide unique and customized experiences.

Additionally, businesses can enjoy faster and more reliable communication, provide top-of-the-line service to their customers, and allow them to provide new and exciting experiences to consumers. They can also rest easy knowing that customers will be extremely satisfied with the high speeds and low latency of the new service.

Although the country has some excellent technological infrastructure already, it will be significantly boosted once the new 28 Gbps technology is brought into widespread use. According to a November 2021 study, the average download speed in Malaysia was 114.08 Mbps, which ranked them 45th in the world. For comparison, the current fastest region is Taiwan, China, where the average speed is 153.51 Mbps, which means that ZTE 5G’s 28 Gbps is over 100 times as fast as the current top-ranked country.

Conclusion

After this impressive display of technological innovation by ZTE 5G and TM, it is clear that ZTE’s place as an industry leader and revolutionary remains secure and that it will continue to shape the way the world uses the internet for many years to come.
